The Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band will open their 2018-19 concert season onMonday September 17th at 7:30 p.m. with a show titled “A Tribute to Neil Diamond.”  The performance will feature the exciting Dean Colley and the “Hot August Night”band, “The Dogs,” a very talented Rock ‘n Roll band from Claremont California, and the outstanding musicians of the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band.  We invite you to come out and enjoy the sunset with some good music.  The city will provide 150 chairs for our fans or you can bring your lawn chairs and/or blanket and make your own spot in the grass in front of the Bandshell at the beautiful Ontario Town Square.  The square is located one block East of Euclid Ave. at the corners of “C” Street and Lemon and “B” Street and Lemon.  Come join in the fun.

For years Dean Colley was told he looked like Neil Diamond.  So, one day he did something about it and put together a Neil Diamond tribute act called “Hot August Night.”  Dean and his band have performed in casinos, at corporate parties, fairs and in clubs all over the United States, Japan, Canada and England.

Dean played in bands until 1998 and that’s when he did his first Neil Diamond impersonation or impression.  It was just a smashing success.  Twenty years later he continues to entertain concert audiences with his tribute to the famous music icon.  Dean stated in an interview  –  “My passion has always been music.  Music is everything to me, but I’ve never been classically trained.  I never went through music theory.  I don’t read or write music.  I have my own notation which my band members now know quite well.  As long as you know how the song goes you can read what I call my ‘audio map’ and know where you’re at during the set in case you lose your place.”  –  Dean has earned the reputation as the best look-alike, sound-alike Neil Diamond tribute act in the country.  Dean will perform seven Neil Diamond songs with the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band.  The selections include “Street Life,” “Solitary Man,” “If You Know What I Mean,” “Crunchy Granola Suite,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “America.”

The concert also features “The Dogs,” four great musicians who have been entertaining audiences since 1998.  The musicians includes Frank Hanson on Guitar, Dave Catron on Bass, Matt Snyder on Keyboard, and Steve Sturgis on Drums.  The Dogs have a library of over 125 songs that pays tribute to groups such as Steely Dan, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and many others.  They truly love what they do and give the proper respect and reverence to the artists that have become the fabric of rock and popular music.  They will perform “Ferry Cross the Mersey” and “Wichita Lineman.”

The Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band will perform a number of Neil Diamond hits that include “Love On the Rocks” with vocalist Chris McAleer, “Song Sung Blue,” “Shilo,” “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” and “September Morn” featuring tenor saxophone soloist and Assistant Director Pat Arnold.
